Custom Carbon Seats for the GT40

A unique pair of seats were required for the GT40 to accommodate tall drivers wearing race helmets without fitting a gurney bubble in the roof. The carbon seats were custom made here in Melbourne.
The seats were installed in the car with only 3mm clearance to the alloy floor panel to provide the maximum headroom possible.
The seat mounting features were bonded into the seats before bonding the inner and outer skins together. These features allow aluminium rails to be mounted to the sides so that the seats can fit in the narrow GT40 chassis.
Positioning the seats in the car to be level and central to the driving position was critical.
A small head rest was made and covered in leather. All the belt openings were edged with a rubber product to protect the belts.
The seats are very comfortable even without padding and provide a great driving position.
