China's Ministry of Finance announced on 28 June that buyers of new energy vehicles (NEVs) will continue to enjoy the new vehicle purchase tax break until the end of 2020.
Significance: The extended tax break on NEVs is part of China's incentive package to increase their appeal to consumers. Electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids have been exempt from the 10% purchase tax since 2014. For 2019 and 2020, it will still play a positive role in encouraging consumers to opt for a NEV. The preferential tax policy, along with government-backed subsidies, effectively drives down the purchase price. Such policies will eventually be scrapped by policy makers in order to reduce manufacturers' reliance on financial support.
It’s on the bucket list to buy a motorbike, and go for a cruise, maybe in the USA, maybe around the UK. So that got me thinking about the sort of motorbike I’d like to use. I would not want anything too fast, that’s asking for trouble with the fuzz and much easier to injure myself (I don’t want that), so a vintage bike or chopper would be my ride of choice. Something cool, nothing too fast (I can do that in the protection of a car), something unique, or something that stands out. Looking around the web I found this company where you can hire vintage rides, how cool is that, and even better than that they do tours as well. Nice one.
Vintage Rides is a motorcycle tour agency, offering Royal Enfield tours in 3 continents and 12 destinations. The website looks cool, and they would certainly be an option that I’d consider for a road trip.
There’s also the option of buying a bike, and taking that along, but I’m not very mechanically minded (never made the time), so if I did take that option I’d need to get roadside assistance cover for sure. Looking online the sort of bike I’d go for are…
A cool chopper
or cool bobber
or a vintage Ducati, MV Agusta, or old English bike (like a Royal Enfield or similar)
MV Agusta S150 (below)
or a Ducati 200 SS Elite (below)
or a Royal Enfield Bullet Gunmaster (below)
So there you have it, some of my ride preferences. Still unsure if I’ll ever venture into owning a bike. Maybe when I was young, but as you get older, and I have kids and a wife to provide for, my own sense of mortality kicks in whenever I’m close to that urge to buy one.
Oh and this 2019 MV Agusta 750S Tributo is beautiful. We love it.
Who knows. Only time will tell if I ever get to do venture into buying a bike, or taking that easy rider road trip.
Honda and Acura are recalling 1.6 million cars dating from 2001 to 2015 in the manufacturers’ last phase of a several-year recall of potentially deadly Takata front passenger airbag inflators.
The airbags, made with the chemical ammonium nitrate, are prone to exploding upon deployment, potentially hurling fiery shrapnel into passengers. Twenty-four people have been killed and hundreds injured by the inflators worldwide.
When the newly announce recall is complete, Honda says it will have recalled or accounted for 22.6 million inflators in about 12.9 million vehicles.
Affected Honda models include the 2001-2012 Accord, the 2010-2015 Crosstour, the 2001-2011 Civic, 2002-2011 CR-V, the 2011-2015 CR-Z, the 2003-2011 Element, the 2007-2014 Fit, the 2010-2014 Insight, the 2002-2004 Odyssey, the 2003-2015 Pilot and the 2006-2014 Ridgeline. Acura models include the 2003 3.2CL, the 2013 ILX, the 2003-2006 MDX, the 2015 RDX, the 2005-2012 RL, the 2002-2003 3.2TL, the 2009-2014 TL, the 2009-2014 TSX, and the 2010-2013 ZDX.
The recall includes many Honda and Acura models. All received replacement inflators made by Takata before February of 2017 and were scheduled to be recalled a second time to replace those with inflators made by another company.
The Takata airbag recall has affected virtually all major automakers and forced the Japanese company into bankruptcy in July 2017.
Owners of the recalled vehicles are expected to receive mailed notification starting in mid-August 2019.
All Honda Gold Wing motorcycles equipped with defective inflators were included in earlier recalls and remain eligible for repair.
Car owners can check whether their vehicles are affected in the recall now at www.recalls.acura.com and www.recalls.honda.com or by calling 888-234-2138.

(Originally posted 7/4/18) Detroit. Since this week’s issue falls on Independence Day, I thought it might be appropriate to take a time out and think about this country of ours and what it means to be free. If you’re so inclined, you should take the time and read the Declaration of Independence, because it is a most remarkable document with uncomfortable parallels to where we, as a country, find ourselves today.
It’s quite obvious that too many of us have lulled ourselves into taking for granted what it means to be really free, and it’s not hard to see why. Our most solemn national remembrances are now distilled down to days on the calendar for retail sales events, as if all of the sacrifices of the millions of men and women who came before us are mere backdrops for a deal on a couch.
That this is unsettling for a lot of people across the country is no secret, but it seems that any efforts to quell the commercialism surrounding Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veteran’s Day are dismissed as being inconsequential and unwanted.
No, I am not throwing ice water on what now passes for tradition in this country when it comes to Independence Day - the backyard barbecues, family get-togethers and fireworks, but it concerns me that a large faction of this country goes about making plans for “the 4th” completely and conveniently ignoring what it all means.
So, let this be the slightest of reminders, that you might pause at least momentarily to think about what Independence Day really means.
Let’s start with independence of thought. In a country that was founded on the fundamental principles of freedom, I can’t think of a more essential privilege of living here than the freedom to intellectually explore without the threat of reprisal. Yes, this one essential ingredient causes this country myriad problems at times, but it’s who we are and it’s what we do.
Then there’s independence of beliefs. Whether it be political or religious beliefs, we have rights in this nation that other people in the world can only dream about. People still want to come here based on these two factors alone, just as the original settlers of this land did.
An independence to roam. Now, I know this is a quality of living here that most people have all but forgotten, but we live in a vast country that’s as distinctive as the multiple geographies that define it. And we’ve been free to roam and wander and take it all in for so long that we find it hard to believe that places still exist in the world where you simply can’t do that. Dismiss this fundamental freedom of mobility at your peril, because it’s essential to the American experience.
Things may feel a little grim right now, but I don’t believe for a moment that we, together, can’t rise above the current rancor and savor the independence we all enjoy every single day. And it’s important to remember too that it is our unending privilege to honor those that came before us because we are reveling in the fruits of their sacrifices.
I could go on, but I will leave the rest of this to your own thoughts. Think about the big things and the little things that surprise you and at times astound you about living here. We are so very fortunate to be able to call America our home, because it’s a 24/7 experience that’s simply a wonder to behold.
It’s America Wide Open, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When Honda had planned about Honda CBR 650F’s release, they probably had the budget-tight range of consumers in mind. Even with a 650 cc displacement engine, the price is well below the 10 lacs margin and that too from a Japanese automobile manufacturer, whose level of perfection has been a legacy in the industry and to people’s minds. The Honda CBR 250F is a 2014 production motorbike with a humongous engine underneath the cowling, with modern features like ABS and what not! The Honda CBR 650F is usually assembled in Thailand, and later on made available to all across the world.
Honda CBR 650F
Honda CBR 650F is the higher engine performance twin brother of the Honda CBR 500R, which is around 2 lacs lesser in price and has a slightly tinier engine. Also, there’s a similar Japanese sibling titled Honda CBR 600RR with four cylinders.
Engine: 648.72 cc.
Mileage: 21 kmpl.
Power: 84.11 bhp.
Price: Rs. 760,970.
Honda CBR 650F Specifications
The engine specs and other qualities of the Honda CBR 650F will simply blow you away, especially if you aren’t much familiar with such higher powered motorbikes. The engine displacement is a huge 648.72 cc; and the maximum power output it offers is 84.11 bhp. Even a motorcar worth the same engine size offers lesser horsepower than this, thus riding the Honda CBR 650F will certainly be a fun experience. Maximum torque provided by the SI engine in the Honda CBR 650F is 62.90 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The engine is liquid cooled, has 4 valves and work on the 4-stroke principle.
Stopping power on the Honda CBR 650F is quite on the humongous side. Both wheels are equipped with disc brake technology, and the callipers are manufactured by Nissin which happens to be a really popular company that manufactures advanced brake calipers. The front wheel is equipped with 320 mm petal brake callipers, and the rear wheel is equipped with 240 mm disc brake caliper.
Overall curb weight of the Honda CBR 650F is 215 kilograms. That’s much heavier than regular motorbikes, almost 100 kilograms of added weight. However, sports motorbikes need to be heavy for stability in extreme speed scenario. The fuel tank is 17 liters on this motorbike, and the engine offers a rated mileage of 21 kmpl.
Honda CBR 650F Design
The design resembles that of a Honda bike, slightly different than the regular CBR language design though. There is sharp styling all across the body of the Honda CBR 650F. The design is very aggressive as a motorcycle of this caliber is supposed to be. LED lights are posted on either side of the halogen headlamp, which could act as riding lights for daytime, much like the modern day sports cars. The tail has an integrated under the pan for the cleanliest of looks in motorbikes. Honda CBR 650F is based on a black themed body, even the forks that support the wheels are blacked out. In between the handles sits the main console where LCD panels provide information on the engine rev, speed, fuel status and it’s also a trip computer.
Honda CBR 650F comes in three colour schemes – matte metallic black, candy blue and red.
Honda CBR 650F Features
Speaking of the features, there’s a whole lot to talk about. In brief details, the Honda CBR 650F has a large engine with almost a sedan sports car like engine pick up. The fuel efficiency is low as expected, yet won’t hurt the pockets much and could be used as a city bike. As opposed to the monstrous speeds, there are super-efficient ways of stopping as well. There are three colour variants to choose from. Even after all this, the price is still reasonable.
Honda CBR 650F Price
Ex-showroom Mumbai price for the Honda CBR 650F is Rs. 760,970.
Conclusion
Honda CBR 650F makes a great appearance in the Indian motorbike markets. People with a much higher budget and prefer
With almost 700bhp, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody is one of the world’s most powerful production saloons
The Dodge Challenger and Charger aren't given much consideration here in the UK, yet the expansion of 'Widebody' to the Charger Hellcat name was essentially a lot for us to disregard...
Coming as standard on each of the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcats is Dodge's Widebody pack, including new front and back belts, total with wide curves for extreme path filling capacity. It appears the term widebody is tossed around excessively generously nowadays, anyway a couple of additional millimeters in width isn't what the Charger finds in this occasion, yet just about 89. Under the swelling curves sit new, more extensive 20in wheels, enclosed by 305 segment Pirelli tires. The new front grille likewise takes into account improved cooling, with the back spoiler expecting to give better-streamlined parity.
> 2018 Jaguar XE SV Project 8 audit – is this present SVO's best undertaking yet?
Beside the conspicuous visual changes, the new Charger Hellcat sees the expansion of versatile Bilstein suspension, six cylinder Brembo brakes with 391mm plates for better ceasing force, an 8.4in infotainment framework, expanded front spring rates, the bigger enemy of move bars and re-tuned dampers. An element called 'Race Cooldown' likewise now comes as standard, permitting the intercooler siphon and radiator fan to pursue even the motor has been closed down for cooling of the supercharger.
Under the hat sits the equivalent 6.2-liter V8 found in the past Charger Hellcat, creating 697bhp and 650lb ft. These may be indistinguishable figures from its forerunner, however, it's never been a sluggard, with 0-60mph coming in simply 3.6secs and top speed at 196mph, practically coordinating the £150,000, restricted run Jaguar XE SV Project 8.
Additionally prodded during the uncovering was the formation of a Pikes Peak variation. Concerning subtleties, the brand remained tight-lipped yet dependent on what we've seen before it'd almost certainly have considerably more width for included dependability, expanded halting capacity and maybe much more control over the street legitimate vehicle.
Request books open toward the finish of this current year, anyway as you may have speculated, it won't be sold in the UK – most likely something to be thankful for given the size of our streets. The widebody unit is additionally accessible on the 478bhp Scat Pack as a choice.

Following an initial development programme of simulated aerodynamic testing in Italy, Automobili Pininfarina has revealed its stunning Blu Iconica Battista with new design details at the Turin Outdoor Auto Show.
The evolution of the Battista’s design as it heads into its development programme resulted in design detail upgrades that have redefined the front of the Battista and reinforced its hypercar look and feel, presenting an even greater visual connection between front and back.
The revised Blu Iconica Battista will be presented in Turin until Sunday 23rd June with Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of Pininfarina S.p.A and Luca Borgogno, Automobili Pininfarina’s Design Director joining the hypercar at its ‘home’ motor show. Each of the planned 150 Battistas will be hand-built at Pininfarina S.p.A near to Turin where the new design details were realised.
Luca Borgogno, Design Director, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “It is incredibly exciting to be presenting the Battista in Turin and near to its home in Cambiano. Since its debut at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, the Battista has stunned audiences all around the world with its beauty and purity of design. I am pleased to be presenting it with these latest masterstrokes that make the form of the car even more beautiful and elegant, and true to Pininfarina’s design principles.”
Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman, Pininfarina S.p.A, said: “We are really proud of the Battista and very happy to see the car at our home auto show in Turin. The design teams at Pininfarina and Automobili Pininfarina worked hard together to present a work of art at Geneva this year. But we never stop aiming for perfection in car design, so are pleased to be able to add design details to the front surfaces that, I believe, reinforce the Battista’s elegance and beauty.”
Following its presentation in Turin the Battista programme moves onto the next phase of simulation testing, wind tunnel and the first track development programmes under the guidance of ex-Formula 1 and Formula E racer, Nick Heidfeld, Automobili Pininfarina’s Chief Development Driver.
The Automobili Pininfarina luxury car brand was announced at Rome’s Formula E race in 2018 and in less than one year presented the Battista to the world in Geneva. Potential customers are invited to apply to own a Battista now using an online service within the company’s website: Apply Now.

The forthcoming 2020 Audi Q4 is the new member of the company’s lineup of crossovers. At first, this model was referred as the Q3 Sportback model. However, Q4 will be a model on its own in the future. New Q4 will arrive in the last quarter of 2019 and it is currently built in Hungary. It will feature a coupe-like appearance and it will look very sporty.
Sloped roofline, modern design, and upscale styling are just some of the highlights. The cabin offers a great level of comfort and good visibility. Performance-wise, this crossover should arrive with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder unit. On the other hand, the same engine could power the Q4 RS variant.
Some Cues are Taken From the Q3 Model
First spy shots are looking good. The 2020 Audi Q4 will look extremely attractive. The highlight of this model will be a sloped roofline and coupe-like design. The rear end looks sleeker than the front one. However, the front fascia provides an astonishing look with all-new headlights and sporty hood. Some cues are taken from the Q3 model but generally, this crossover looks very fresh and unique. We can expect a 102.5-inch long wheelbase. However, wheelbase could be longer on the production model.
LED lighting system comes as standard, just like the 18-inch wheels. The design looks angular and we can expect plenty of exterior packages. Thanks to the packages, you will get glossy black trims, sporty spoilers and bumpers. Thanks to the heavy use of aluminum materials, the 2020 Q4 will be lighter than the Q3 model. On top of that, Audi will offer an aluminum power tailgate as standard.
2020 Audi Q4 Interior Design
Brand-new 2020 Audi Q4 will look very modern from the inside. The interior is based on the interior of the Q3 model. Most of the shapes and features are exactly the same. However, some parts are looking unique. For the start, the cabin hosts plenty of geometric lines and layout is horizontal. Optionally, Q4 comes with a panoramic sunroof. On top of that, leather upholstery is optional too.
This crossover also sports a lot of aluminum and wooden trims. A 9.2-inch touchscreen comes as standard. As for the driver-assistance features, this crossover offers standard blind spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. Interior room is ample and cargo area provides around 50 cubic feet of space.
Engine Specs
Audi’s newest crossover will offer at least two engine options. For U.S. buyers, we can expect a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission and it delivers over 200 hp. Overseas, the 2020 Audi Q4 will offer a 1.5-liter diesel unit. According to numerous reports, the 1.5-liter gasoline engine will be in the offer as well.
Audi also plans to expand its lineup of the RS models. For that reason, Audi Q4 RS more than certain. Some speculations are already suggesting over 400 horsepower through the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine with turbocharger. RS version will also arrive with the multiple driving modes and modified MQB platform.
2020 Audi Q4 Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2020 Audi Q4 will arrive on the markets at some point in 2019. The arriving crossover will most likely arrive this fall. Price is still unknown. However, the current Q3 model is priced at $34,000 and Q5 at $43,000. Q4 will slot between these two models and it will cost around $37,000.
The dealer hands you the keys, you take the wheel and drive off the lot reveling in your shiny new vehicle purchase. What could be better?
Knowing you’ve made a great choice for your finances, as well as your driving wants and needs, could make it all the sweeter now and for the years to come.
That’s why it’s well worth using an auto finance calculator before you shop. Online tools such as RoadLoans’ affordability and monthly payment calculators give consumers a number of advantages as they search for their next car and the best financing arrangements.
Auto loan calculators will enable you to estimate:
How much you may be able to spend on a car in total, taking into account any down payment and trade-in
A monthly payment that fits your budget so you won’t have trouble paying off the vehicle
The right loan duration so you can find a good balance between a comfortable auto payment and total interest charges
How interest rates affect loan costs
Estimate a loan amount
Start by using the affordability calculator to get a better idea of how much you could spend overall. Enter a desired monthly payment, loan term in months, APR and down payment amount.
*APR is the Annual Percentage Rate or the cost of your credit at a yearly rate.
When adding the loan duration, you can see how a longer term increases the loan amount while a shorter period reduces it. Bear in mind that longer loans typically mean the borrower will pay more interest over the course of the contract.
What should you enter for APR? Annual percentage rates are affected by a range of factors, including a consumer’s credit history, and a look at average auto loan rates by credit score will provide a general reference. Even a one-point drop in your interest rate may offer a decent saving.
Lastly, a down payment can combine the trade-in value of your current car, if you have one, as well as cash you may want to add to it. Adding a figure to the down payment field will increase the estimated amount you have to spend on a car.
Here’s an example. A car shopper enters a monthly payment of $450 with a 60-month loan term, six percent APR and a $4,000 down payment, which is the value of their trade-in. The estimated amount they have to spend is $27,277. If the loan period is extended to 72 months, it increases to $31,153. Let’s say they have money saved and decide to put $2,000 cash on top of their trade-in, raising the down payment to $6,000. The affordability amount increases further to $33,153.
Calculate monthly payments
Similarly, enter loan amount, duration, APR and down payment into the car loan calculator, then adjust the values to gauge how your potential monthly payment changes.
Our car shopper likes the total amount of $27,277 but is now wondering what kind of auto payment they may get if they were to go with a shorter term so they could pay off the car quicker and save on interest.
Putting in $27,277 with a six percent APR, $4,000 down, and now 48-month term, the monthly payment rises to $547. What if they were to get a better interest rate? A three percent APR drops the car payment from $547 to $515 a month, which adds up to a much larger saving over time.

When you no longer feel comfortable driving on the highways or freeways because your vehicle’s bearings whine, the suspension makes you feel like you are driving a boat, and you are prone to breakdowns at any given time, it is time to visit Cash for Cars. Cash for Cars has the network of salvage yards on call and a convenient online service that lets you find top dollar for your junked and aging vehicles. But, no matter what you drive on the highways and freeways, you can benefit from these safe highway driving tips.
What is the Difference Between a Highway and a Freeway?
While all freeways are essentially highways, not all highways are freeways. This is because freeways are meant to open up traffic and give you unfettered access to encompassing miles and miles of terrain without stopping. A freeway is usually entered and exited via sloped ramps with very few distractions along the route to tempt motorists to do anything but drive as far as the eye could see. A highway, by contrast, is generally full of temptations as commercial entities prop up their baits on the sides to lure in passers-by.
A freeway is divided with concrete barriers and landscaping to separate the sets of lanes that are both coming and going in opposite directions. A highway has no such barriers and may have a central lane for making turns to cross over into businesses on the other side if it goes through a residential area. Because highways don’t have the freedom of freeways, you will find more traffic signs and lights to impede traffic.
It is even thought that many freeways were developed to double as airport runways in the event of an emergency. The engineering is definitely built upon keeping them as straight in line as possible to reduce fuel consumption and accidents from driver error. Driving long distances in a straight line requires less concentration and motor skills. It is, therefore, easier to drive on a freeway without fatigue for longer periods of time.
Key Highway Driving Tips
1: Use Alternate Routes to Avoid Traffic Lights
When you are driving on a highway, it is the traffic lights that tend to slow you down. Traffic lights where two highways cross each other can lead to utter gridlock at rush hour traffic times. You may have to sit idle at these lights for 5 to 10 minutes because the traffic is backed up and congested for many other cross points behind it. The traffic will creep along in these instances and barely trickle free as motorists maneuver and look for any escape.
You should avoid highways that get jammed up every day at critical crossings by taking alternate routes that may seem longer on other days. There are almost always other highway routes that run parallel to the direction you are doing which can be accessed and traverse in less time even if you have to enter them from several blocks out of your way.
2: Scrupulously Obey the Speed Limits
Although it is common for drivers to go as much as 10 mph over the speed limit on larger freeways because everyone is speeding, it is not a good idea to try and make time on highways in more commercial areas. The police typically have speed traps set up to force drivers to slow down and stop when they are coming close to commercial areas from another town. You should also take more care with your turn signals because undercover police may be around in many areas looking for traffic infractions.
3: Be Careful with GPS Navigation Apps
Many drivers today use GPS navigation apps like Google Maps on their cellphones or other programs that provide them a clear and easy to follow visual map of directions. While these applications can be useful for locating hard-to-find places on the fly, it is easy to misjudge where exactly you are supposed to turn. This can be especially bad on one-way streets where the risk of a head-on collision is highest.
There are also situations when the GPS has it totally wrong or when they want you to make an illegal U-turn. Always ditch the GPS instructions and try to manually map things out if you feel any doubts about the quality of the directions. There are certain areas that are more poorly mapped out than others.
Using GPS can also put you in the bad habit of taking convoluted driving routes that are more frustrating to traverse or more time-consuming even if they are technically shorter in distance. Although a lot more can be said, these are just some general tips for driving on the highway.
An Additional Key Tip for Driving on the Highways at Night
Driving on the highways at night is a whole other ballgame. The chief problem is visibility. This is especially true in inclement weather when visibility is further compromised. Although motor vehicles are equipped with bright lights that make it easier to see turn signals and the contours of a vehicle when you are cruising along, some drivers may be suffering from fatigue.
When people are tired and driving, they are more dangerous than drunk drivers. Falling asleep at the wheel has led to many fatalities of adults and innocent children. When people are very tired and trying to get home from work at night or haven’t quite woken up in the morning, they are essentially in a hypnagogic state.
They may be hallucinating and functioning in a surreal dreamlike state that does not consider the serious consequences of anything. They may be confused about what to do in certain traffic situations such as a 4-way stop or a determining who has the right of way at other intersections. Here are some tips for driving on the highway at night that just may save your life.
1: Drink Coffee with Caution
Although some people hate caffeine and the energy crash that it can cause hours into the day, it may be a good idea to get in the habit of drinking just a cup to lift the morning fog. They even have flavors of coffee called Morning Fog as a testament to their effectiveness.
If you don’t want to become dependent on the tiring crash-and-burn effect, however, you may want to try a milder stimulant like cocoa-rich chocolate or hot chocolate in the morning. You can even brew your own slightly sweetened or unsweetened cocoa drinks to reduce your calorie intake.
Chocolate contains caffeine but is not as addictive as coffee. Drinking coffee at night can make you more fatigued and should not be the go-to choice when you are doing long bouts of driving on the highways. Nevertheless, a little bit of stimulation can keep you sharper and improve your reaction times.
Sell Your Old Car
The best tip of the many highway driving tips that we can give you is simply to sell your aging vehicle and move into something safer. Driving on the highways, nowadays, can be very intense and may require a lot of concentration as late-model drivers zip along without worries. Late-model drivers often rely on so many safety features to alert them of blind spots and impending collisions but can make it dangerous for you to drive.
Go to Cash for Cars to get rid of that lemon before you run into more serious breakdowns and accidents driving it. They offer you higher-than-average pricing and have a large network to accommodate drivers all over the nation.
The world-renowned Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado is all about challenges. Drivers must negotiate 156 turns over 12.4 miles ? a route that puts a premium on handling and top-notch braking. The air is thin at the 9,390-foot start and gets thinner on the climb to the finish line at 14,115 feet, affecting the engine's output and the driver's stamina.
There’s no denying that Mercedes-Benz has thrown many automotive creations against the wall to see what sticks. In such a quest, the C-Class has been moved up along the line no longer standing as an entry-level into the luxury brand. Now, there are many vehicles in the brand lineup that fall below the C-Class giving it a bit of room to “grow up” and captivate consumers with more upscale offerings for features and the overall feel of being a smaller iteration of the S-Class sedan.
For 2019, the Mercedes-Benz C300 gets a few updates in the form of offering more horsepower in the engine choices, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a departure from offering a hybrid version.
Since the redesign of the C-Class for the 2015 model year, it has successfully taken a page from the S-Class’ design, which has played well for what some may consider to be one of the most luxurious vehicles for its class. With that, the 2019 C300 is starting to stand out a bit more with the styling and color of my test vehicle adorned in its Lunar Blue paint, black-accented 19-inch AMG wheels, LED exterior lighting, and a panoramic glass roof.
While the exterior style of the C300 sedan is classy and attractive, the interior keeps the same trend borrowing a smaller form factor of the highly praised S-Class. Much of the feature sets, infotainment unit, and controls are borrowed from the S-Class only fit in a smaller area. The traditional and recent iteration of Mercedes’ infotainment system is present but it is a version before the highly touted MBUX system. Making do with the dual 12.3-inch screens, one for the gauge cluster and the other as a fixed non-touch infotainment screen, the system remains to be somewhat cumbersome by using the central turn controller and/or touchpad. Hopefully, Mercedes will utilize the all-new MBUX system in upcoming versions of the C-Class following a redesign in the next couple of years departing from the central controller setup.
Just like my previous review of the C300 Convertible, the C300 Sedan features the same delightful turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a 9-speed automatic transmission before it goes through the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, making the C300 Sedan nicely planted on the road. The C300 Sedan also moves along the road quite well where there isn’t much turbo lag, and the transmission does well to keep with landing in the proper gear without too much hunting. The drive modes make a noticeable difference in Sport and Sport+ modes eliminating the 2nd gear start that defaults in Comfort and Eco drive modes. Zero to 60 mph comes in 5.5 seconds, which is just a tick slower than the Audi A4 2.0T Quattro hitting 60 mph in 5.2 seconds but faster than most of the other direct competition equipped with turbo 4-cylinder engines.
As you would expect, the C300 with its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine gets decent fuel economy for a luxury vehicle. I saw figures just one mpg below the EPA estimates of 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, 26 mpg combined.
The ride of the C300 Sedan due to the lack of adaptive dampers in my test vehicle was not as nice as it could be in higher trim levels of the C-Class. However, the addition of the optional AMG Line package beefs up the handling attributes with a Sport Suspension setup, Sport Steering, and upgraded brakes with cross-drilled rotors up front.
Available luxury amenities are strong in their numbers where nicely equipping the C300 Sedan can increase the price in a hurry. My nicely equipped and nearly-loaded C300 Sedan 4MATIC test vehicle came in at a price of $63,825. Mind you, the C300 Sedan starts at $41,400 before any options or fees.
