Toyota Corolla Saloon Review

The new Toyota Corolla Saloon
The new Toyota Corolla Saloon

Caroline drives the new Toyota Corolla Saloon!

It’s fair to say that the Toyota Corolla Saloon is one of Ireland’s best loved cars. But even legends like the Corolla saloon have to move with the times. Indeed, there’s something of a revolution going on at Toyota since Toyota Global President, Akio Toyoda, declared “no more boring cars!” from the brand. At that means you too, Corolla!

The revolution is partly down to Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that is underpinning a whole new generation of models including the RAV4, Camry and Corolla.

There’s also been a little housekeeping going on at Toyota. The Toyota Auris name has now been discontinued. Instead a new family of compact models – a hatchback, estate and saloon – will all wear the Corolla badge.

The new Corolla Saloon also debuts a hybrid powertrain for the first time, which is good news for Irish buyers. Toyota’s 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain has been significantly revised and improved to make for a smoother and more efficient drive.

What’s new for the Toyota Corolla Saloon?

In looks alone, this new Corolla Saloon is a handsome beast with a wide and low stance. At the front the styling is a small bit different to the hatchback and estate with a unique LED light signature, while around the rear it’s as sharp as a Samurai sword!

Inside the Toyota Corolla has an all new interior with improvements in design, quality and technology. There are plenty of soft touch materials and a number of technology features including the digital instrument panel and central touchscreen for the infotainment. However the absence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the main touchscreen is a bit disappointing.

The new Toyota Corolla Saloon is priced from €25,685 with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, while the hybrid is available from €26,820. There are four trim levels – Aura, Luna, Luna Sport and Sol – with standard equipment including 16” alloys, LED headlamps/fog lamps, 8” Toyota Touch, rear view camera, dual zone climate control, and Toyota Safety Sense with adaptive cruise control and lane trace assist.

My test car was a Luna Sport Hybrid with a list price of €29,995. Equipment included 17” alloys, chrome window frame, rear privacy glass, rain sensor, Smart Entry & Start, navigation, textured chrome inserts to the interior, grey lower dashboard, ambient lighting, heated front seats and driver lumbar support.

The boon for the Corolla Saloon is that it sits on a longer wheelbase than the hatchback. That means that it is generously sized in the rear for carrying passengers. The car feels spacious and airy for its class. At 471 litres, the boot is only outsized by the Corolla Touring Sports and the opening is wide enough for a saloon also making the space more usable.

Driving the new Toyota Corolla Saloon

On the road the longer wheelbase also pays dividends for comfort. It’s no exaggeration to say that the Corolla Saloon is very comfortable and relaxing to drive. The hybrid powertrain has 122hp and offers smooth power delivery and decent acceleration. Give it too much throttle and the CVT gearbox does protest with more transmission whine, but at a relaxed pace, this car just wafts along effortlessly. It handles and steers with ease also. Over a few days of driving my fuel consumption averaged at 4.9l/100km while motor tax is €180 per year.

The new Toyota Corolla Saloon is the more classic and traditional member of the new Corolla family, but it feels much more modern and sophisticated than the car it replaces. A sharp new look for the outside and a new interior bring the Corolla Saloon into a new era, but the traditional Corolla values of comfort and space remain.

The Corolla Saloon is the one for ‘big car’ comfort and refinement, now with hybrid power and efficiency!

Honda CD 110 Price in India, Mileage, Specs & Features

Honda from Japan has always made the best two-wheelers in the universe. Of course, other competitions have arisen with the improvement in industrial technology, but no other had been able so far to take the most superior position in the motorcycle industry in the Indian market from Honda Japan. Japanese definition of superiority and perfection is different from that of any other part of the world, and that’s why people love these products over any other.

Honda CD 110

Honda CD 110 Dream is based on a classical Honda CD model from the past, and it’s now in the same class as the Dream Yuga and Dream Neo. This bike falls within the basic commuting bike. Honda motorbikes are very popular for their reliable service and longevity over so many years, there are plenty of Honda motorbikes in the streets that have been handed over from generation to generation. The Honda CD 110 Dream would certainly be one of them.

Engine: 110cc

Mileage: 83 kmpl.

Power: 8.25 bhp.

Price: Rs. 47,968.

Honda CD 110 Dream Design

Honda CD 110 Dream design is more on the simplicity end, Honda has kept everything as plain as possible. Mostly sold Indian market distribution version of the Honda CD 110 Dream comes with spoke wheels and kick start, but there are two more versions with alloy wheels in this segment, the price various only by few thousand rupees.

The seating arrangement on Honda CD 110 Dream is more like the old school motorbikes, not straight as much but not two seats placed in two different levels either. The pillion seat is slightly escalated from the rider’s, that should make the ride comfortable for commuting within a city; probably from your home to your college or workplace or the other way around. Highway riding is fun on Honda CD 110 Dream as well, the engine output and mileage figure should be able to satisfy the rider.

All the Honda CD 110 Dream motorbikes are black in color, however, the visuals on the body have three different colour options. The color schemes for the Honda CD 110 Dream are black with blue stripes, black with red stripes and black with grey stripes.

Honda CD 110 Dream Specifications

Honda CD 110 Dream specifications look good so far, for a commuter motorbike of its class. The engine displacement in the Honda CD 110 Dream is 110 cc. Maximum power output figure is 8.25 bhp at 7,500 rpm and maximum torque output from this 110 cc engine is 8.63 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The transmission is manual as expected, with 4 gears. Since this motorbike isn’t intended to be sporting around, the rider shouldn’t feel the lack of one or two additional gears for better engine pick up.

For stopping, both the wheels have drum brakes, sufficient to stop the bike within a short time frame. There are no disc brake options for this motorbike. There are both kick start and self-start variants, the self-start variant comes with a set of alloy wheels.

Fuel efficiency has been marked 83 kmpl officially, the actual figure might vary depending on the actual riding conditions. In normal city riding condition with a moderate amount of traffic jam, the actual mileage figure should stick to the official figure.  Overall curb weight is 105 kilograms, with 8 liters of the fuel tank.

Conclusion

The Honda CD 110 Dream is suited for people of any age group. Even though it’s basically targeted towards the mid-aged and senior citizens, even many youths love the CD 110 for the strong build quality, superior mileage figures and of course, the Honda logo – this Japanese brand has earned such trust and faith from its enthusiasts long time ago.

US state Michigan unveils EV Charging Infrastructure Package

US state Michigan has unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV)
charging infrastructure package to increase access to EV charging
for the public, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a
US-based, nonprofit international environmental advocacy group,
reported on 28 June. The package aims to create tax incentives for
small businesses and multiunit housing to install EV charging
stations and allow the state to install EV charging stations at
state parks and state "park and ride" lots, either directly or by
lease. The package calls for chargers to be available on state
property, at the workplace, and in condominiums and apartments. The
state would also create a council within the Michigan Department of
Transportation (MDOT) to facilitate expansion and management of
Michigan's EV charging infrastructure.

Significance: Michigan is looking to make a
quick transition from being an internal combustion engine (ICE)
vehicle-dependent state to having a much higher share of EVs on the
state roads. Michigan is one of the leading automotive
manufacturing states in the United States and accounts for nearly
23% of all US auto production. Two of the top EV models, the
Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan LEAF, are manufactured in Michigan.
General Motors has recently announced that it is planning to
manufacture a new Chevrolet brand EV at its plant in Michigan. GM
will be investing
USD300 million
in the Michigan assembly plant and 400 new jobs
will be added. Ford also has
announced
plans to invest USD850 million in its Flat Rock
assembly plant in Michigan through 2023 to produce battery electric
vehicles (BEVs). However, the state's contribution toward BEV
production is only 0.34%. According to IHS Markit, out of the
approximately 595,000 EVs sold in the United States during 2018,
only 2% were sold in Michigan. One of the reasons cited for the low
confidence of the residents on EVs is the lack of charging
infrastructure in the state, with just over 1,000 chargers
operational. The new package will help change this scenario.

2020 Peugeot 2008 Is The New Lion King

The all-new 2020 Peugeot 2008 will go on sale later in 2019. The second-gen 2008 SUV will swap its regular engine lineup with the electric power. The first generation brought huge success and now it is time for the second-gen model to make the impact. Of course, the highlight of the 2020 model is its e-2008 variant. Exterior will also suffer a lot.

The front end will host plenty of innovations. The interior will offer more rear-seat legroom this time. Moreover, the interior will look closer to the interior of the recently redesigned Peugeot 208 model. Of course, the all-electric drivetrain is probably the greatest improvement on the all-new model.

2020 Peugeot 2008 Design Updates

The French automaker will deliver plenty of visual upgrades. New 2020 Peugeot 2008 will look beefier than its predecessor. Whatsoever, this SUV now comes with a more pronounced front fascia. The horizontal grille is slightly redesigned and LED headlights are now available in the hook-shape.

Dimensionally, the new 2008 SUV is slightly bigger than the current model. To be more precise, this model is 5.5 inches longer and wheelbase is slightly stretched as well. The sloping roof looks incredible and the rear end will introduce very minor changes. That includes cleaner design in the back and slightly reshaped bumper.

Interior Improvements and Cargo Space

As for the interior, the highlight of the new model is improved cabin room. Thanks to the longer wheelbase and sloping roof, this SUV now offers more space from the inside. Rear-seat passengers will benefit the most. According to the French manufacturer, rear legroom is better than ever before. Behind the rear seats, new 2020 Peugeot 2008 offers 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

That is also a significant improvement over the previous generation. Next-gen 2008 will look closer to its 208 siblings. This SUV now offers more stylish finishes and shapes. Dual digital displays are available and new “piano keys” are in the offer too. Center stack holds more functions than before. There will be four trim levels and upper trims are offering standard leather upholstery. As for safety, Peugeot 2008 will get new adaptive cruise control and lane departure assistance. On top of that, blind spot monitoring, auto headlamps, and the auto emergency braking are all optional.

Powertrain Options

The upcoming 2020 Peugeot 2008 is available with a couple of engine choices. A 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine is available in three different outputs. The first output is rated at 100 HP.

The second output generates 130 and third output up to 155 horsepower. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder Blue HD unit is available too. This diesel drivetrain is producing 100 or 130 horses.

2020 Peugeot e-2008

New electric Peugeot will finally arrive. Visually, it will look the same as the regular model. The 2020 Peugeot 2008 will deploy a single electric motor that delivers 136 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque.

A 50-kWh battery is available too and it provides 193 miles of driving range. Recharge times are depending on the power source, logically. Also, with an a100-kW outlet, it needs 30 minutes for 80 percent recharge.

Price and Release Date

Both variants are available in four trim levels: Active, Allure, GT Line and GT. The 2020 Peugeot 2008 will cost slightly more than its predecessor. However, Peugeot is still refusing to release full pricing details.

The all-electric e-2008 will cost slightly over the base model. This SUV will arrive in Europe later this year. The rest of the markets will have to wait for the beginning of 2020.
