You’ve just been handed the keys to your brand-new BMW. Is there anything more exhilarating than taking it out for that first spin? It has a flawless shine and that unbeatable new car smell. If only it could stay that way.
Well, it can. With a good cleaning and maintenance program, it is possible for you to keep your car looking youthful, so-to-speak, for years to come.
Cleaning and Washing
Believe it or not, washing your car regularly will help keep it looking new. How so? Because it prevents debris and dust from adhering to its surface and damaging the paint finish. There are however a few precautions to take to ensure that you are not scratching your vehicle while you’re washing it:
Always give your car a thorough rinse before taking a mitt to it to remove particles that could create swirl marks as you wash. Use a microfiber mitt and a specially formulated car soap. Any other soap could harm your car’s paint finish.
Dry your vehicle using microfiber towels. Do not drag the towel on your car. Instead, blot the water away, starting from the top, and working your way down.
Clean your tires and rims using a wheel cleaner and a brush. If you chose to use a mitt on your tires, be sure that it is a different one than the one used for the body.
Clean and buff the interior on a regular basis. Vacuum meticulously, using a special attachment to get into all those nooks and crannies where unsightly dirt gathers. Use a dashboard cleaner to wipe surfaces. This will not only make the task easier, but it will leave the inside of your car looking smooth and smelling fresh.
Protect Your Car
Protect your car’s paint and clear coat by waxing it. The frequency with which you wax depends on many factors: the weather, how often you use your vehicle, and where it is stored, for example. Also, observe what happens when water settles on the hood of your car. Does it create a beading effect? If not, then it’s time to wax.
Fix Small Imperfections
Despite your best efforts, you might one day begin to notice a few nicks and scratches on your car. Not to worry, there are many products to help you fix the problem. It is of utmost importance to use high quality paints and touch up kits that guarantee and exact-match. Automotive paint specialists Roberts Paint Care offer such paints and touch-up kits. How-to videos can guide you through the process of restoring your car’s paint. You can find these on their website, along with many other tips on car maintenance.
Taking good care of your car requires a bit of time and effort, but it is nonetheless very gratifying. Not only will it keep your car feeling and looking new for many years, but it will maintain a higher resale value should you one day decide to sell your car and start all over again with a new one.
