Small And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In America – May 2019
The GCBC Analysis
When you look at Small and Midsize Luxury SUV sales, you’ll see that there’s a mixed bag of results. The Subcompact and Midsize Luxury SUV sales were down for the month and YTD, but the Small Luxury SUV sales were up for both the month and YTD.
The Subcompact Luxury SUV segment saw a drop of about 2,700 sales in the month of May. When you look YTD, you’ll notice that this is echoed in the year so far. YTD there have been 13,000 fewer sales in 2019 so far.
The Small Luxury SUVs segment saw roughly 1,900 more sales in May than it did this month last year. When you look YTD, you’ll notice about 8,400 more sales.
The Midsize Luxury SUV segment saw a slight drop of about 400 units for the month of May when compared to this month last year. The YTD numbers were similar, with about 883 fewer sales so far this year.
This all means that the Small Luxury SUV segment is the one that’s growing the fastest, but the Midsize Luxury SUV segment is the segment that still has the most volume. It’ll be interesting to see if Small Luxury SUVs can continue to gain ground and eventually rival the Midsize segment for volume.
Important note: Ford, GM and FCA have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Ram until the end of each quarter.
