Small SUV sales didn’t fare too well in the month of May. The segment was down roughly 19,000 units for the month. When you look YTD you’ll see that there’s a sales drop of about 35,000 units. This means the Sall SUV segment has been having a rough time this year.
The segment wasn’t without its models that saw decent sales increases, though. The Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, and Hyundai Tucson, among a couple of the Subcompact SUV models.
The Subcompact SUV segment didn’t fare much better. That segment saw sales drop around 11,000 units for the month, which is a big portion of the 19,000 sales loss shown for the whole Small SUV segment. When you look YTD, you can see that the segment was only down by about 4,000 units. This means May was an especially bad month for Subcompact SUV sales.
Subcompact SUVs only had a couple of models that saw notable sales increases. These included the Hyundai Kona and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. All other models either saw minimal sales increases or significant sales decreases.
Important note: Ford, GM and FCA have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Ram until the end of each quarter.
