Comment on Before the Monte Carlo victories, Whizzo won the Mini Cooper S’s first international rally by SCOTT NJ

In western NY state in the early 60s a Mini was a rare site. Dad had two friends with them: one had taken lessons at Watkins Glen and gave us a ride on a dirt road where he showed us how to drift it, a wild ride, and the other was an itinerant Jazz organist that travelled the canals in the Finger Lakes on his small yacht with the mini crosswise on the front deck. And my shop teacher had one that got carefully placed on the side landing exit of the bus garage by the football team, and with an inch to spare. The PA announcement by the principal for them to move his car got a good laugh, and a bit of detention for them.
