Circuit Description

The intake air temperature (IAT) sensor is an integral part of the Intake Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature sensor. The IAT sensor is a

variable resistor that measures the temperature of the intake air. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the IAT signal circuit and

supplies a ground to the low reference circuit.

The following table illustrates the difference between temperature, resistance, and voltage:

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0111 Idle Test

* Before the ECM can report DTC P0111 failed, DTC P0101 must run and pass.

* DTC P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0119, P0125, or P0128 is not set.

* The engine coolant temperature (ECT) at engine start is colder than 120掳C (248掳F).

* The ECT is warmer than 60掳C (140掳F).

* The vehicle speed is less than 3 km/h (2 mph).

* DTC P0111 runs continuously when the above conditions are met for greater than 2 s.
