1985 Dodge W150 Instrument Cluster Question

My daughters transmission indicator needle on the instrument cluster broke.... or at least something like a spring broke inside. I did find a replacement cluster at the local junkyard that has this functional. I am thinking about just replacing that part of the cluster, but I did not want to try to tear it apart if there are things inside there that are going to fly apart when the cover is removed.
