Repair Transmission or Rebuild

I have a 2005 Dakota SLT Automatic 3.7 L 4 X 4 with about 146,000 miles. The trans is 42RLE The I bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK and then there was a "hard shift" or "clunk" at 15 mph when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I decided to take it to a trans place and they examined it and said it was "possibly" a shift solenoid or some spring. The estimate was approx $800.
