2006 ram 1500 slt 4.7 intermittent rough running under load

I have a 2006 ram 1500 slt with the 4.7 L engine. While driving it will go from running great to running terrible. It sounds like the exhaust is open and has no power or response when you accelerate. Eventually it reverts back to running smooth with plenty of go when I get on the throttle. No codes are generated when it happens but the rpms drop to nothing or low idle levels on the gauge. ( tach seems to work fine when the engine runs normally) it almost feels like compression is lost but... 2006 ram 1500 slt 4.7 intermittent rough running under load
