Recently, I have been getting an automatic transmission temperature light on my 2005 D with 4.7L 2WD and 190K miles.
According to my D's '05 Owner's Manual, you check the transmission fluid at operating temperature, then place the transmission at 1,2,D,R, and finally P. Then check that the fluid is in between the two "HOT" marks on the transmission dipstick. And it was a bit low so i added about 1 quart.
But the light comes on at highway speeds, usually between 1500 and 2000 RPM...
