DTC U1862 00
- Battery Energy Control Module Lost Communication with Serial Data Gateway Module
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
Modules connected to the high and low speed GMLAN serial data circuits monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation.
Operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. The modules have prerecorded information about what messages are
needed to be exchanged on the serial data circuits, for each virtual network. The messages are supervised and some periodic messages are used by
the receiver module as an availability indication of the transmitter module. Each message contains the identification number of the transmitter
module.
The enable signal circuit is energized by the body control module (BCM) to activate multiple modules when the BCM determines that
communication is required. Some modules may still become active due to their own ignition voltage source if the enable circuit is not functional.
The serial data gateway (SDG) module translates serial data messages between the high speed GMLAN serial data bus, the low speed GMLAN
serial data bus, and the high speed hybrid GMLAN serial data bus. Messages between the drive motor generator battery control module and the
other hybrid system control modules must pass thru the SDG module. DTC U1862 is set by the drive motor generator battery control module, but is
stored in and reported by the hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM).
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The system voltage is between 9-16 volts.
* The vehicle power mode master requires serial data communication to occur from the drive motor generator battery control module via the
SDG module.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
A supervised periodic message that includes the SDG module availability has not been received by the drive motor generator battery control
module.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The charging system will not operate properly and the vehicle battery will discharge as the vehicle is driven.
* The driver information center (DIC) displays the message Service Hybrid System.
* Multiple DTCs may set depending on the fault location and when the fault occurred.

- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature
Diagnostic Fault Information
Typical Scan Tool Data
Circuit/System Description
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the engine coolant. The engine control module
(ECM) supplies 5 V to the ECT sensor signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit.
The purpose of this diagnostic is to analyze the performance of the thermostat by using the ECT sensor to determine if the engine coolant will
increase at the correct rate, and also to meet the calibrated target temperatures under various operating conditions.
The ECM uses the start-up ECT and the start-up intake air temperature (IAT) to begin the diagnostic calculation. The air flow into the engine is
accumulated, and vehicle speed, distance, and engine run time are also factored in to determine if the ECT does increase normally and reach the
calibrated target temperatures.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* DTCs P0101, P0102, P0103, P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0171, P0172, P0174, P0175, P0502, P0503 are
not set.
* The start-up IAT is warmer than -7掳C (+19掳F).
* The start-up ECT is colder than 70掳C (158掳F), when the IAT is above 10掳C (50掳F).
OR
* The start-up ECT is colder than 50掳C (122掳F), when the IAT is below 10掳C (50掳F).
* The engine run time is between 90 s and 22 min.
* The vehicle has traveled greater than 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) at greater than 8 km/h (5 mph).
* The accumulated airflow is between 20-75 g/s, with the minimum average airflow greater than 10 g/s.
* The fuel ethanol percentage is less than 85 %.
* This DTC runs once per ignition cycle when the above conditions are met.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The ECM detects that the minimum ECT of 75掳C (167掳F) has not been met, when the IAT is greater than 10掳C (50掳F).
OR
The ECM detects that the minimum ECT of 55掳C (131掳F) has not been met, when the IAT is less than 10掳C (50掳F).

- Crankshaft Position (CKP) Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) uses the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and the camshaft position (CMP) sensor pulses to monitor the
correlation between the crankshaft and the camshaft position. The crankshaft reluctor wheel consists of a 60-tooth pattern with 2 teeth missing for
the reference gap. Each tooth is evenly spaced 6 degrees apart, except for the reference gap. The camshaft reluctor wheel has 4 teeth, 2 narrow, and
2 wide. The 4 trailing edges of each tooth are evenly spaced at 90 degrees apart around the circumference of the camshaft sprocket. With the engine
running, and the CMP actuator in the parked position, the ECM expects the camshaft signal pulses to occur 36 crankshaft degrees before top dead
center (BTDC) for cylinder number 1, and every 90 degrees thereafter.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* DTC P0335, P0336, P0340, P0341, P0641, or P0651 is not set.
* The engine is running.
* The engine speed is less than 2,000 RPM.
* DTC P0016 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

DTC Descriptor
DTC B3894 5A
- Stop Lamp Switch Circuit Plausibility Failure
Circuit/System Description
The brake switch is hard wired to the fuel pump/trailer brake control module. The body control module (BCM) sends a brake switch status serial
data message to the fuel pump/trailer brake control module. The fuel pump/trailer brake control module compares the states of the brake switch
signal to the serial data message after a master cylinder brake pressure sensor threshold is exceeded. If the brake switch signal and the serial data
message are not in agreement or if the serial data message is not valid, a DTC will set and the trailer brake control system will be disabled.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* Battery voltage is 9.5-17 V.
* The module initialization has taken place.
* The master cylinder brake pressure exceeds threshold
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The brake switch serial data message is not valid.
* The actual brake switch input to the fuel pump/trailer brake control module, and the serial data information for the brake switch do not match.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The trailer brake control will be disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle.
* The driver information center (DIC) will display Service Trailer Brake System.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The fuel pump/trailer brake control module clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 40 consecutive drive cycles.

DTC Descriptors
DTC B0052 00
- Deployment Commanded
Circuit/System Description
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) contains a device that converts vehicle velocity changes into an electrical signal. The
SDM compares this electrical signal to a value stored in memory. When the generated signal exceeds the stored value, the SDM performs additional
signal processing and compares the generated signals to values stored in memory. When 2 of the generated signals exceed the stored values, the
SDM will cause current to flow through the deployment loops, deploying the air bags and/or pretensioners causing DTC B0052 to set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
B0052
* The SDM detects a frontal impact of sufficient force to warrant deployment of the frontal modules.
* The SDM detects a side impact of sufficient force to warrant deployment of a side impact module and/or roof rail module.
* The SDM has deployed the seat belt pretensioner for 3 separate deployments.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The SDM requests the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the Service Air Bag indicator.
* The SDM records crash data.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
After an air bag deployment or 3 separate pretensioner deployments the DTC becomes latched and cannot be cleared.

Typical Scan Tool Data
Circuit/System Description
The drive motor generator battery has four hybrid battery temperature sensors. The hybrid battery temperature sensors are located on the top of the
hybrid batteries. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the hybrid batteries. The control module supplies 5 V
to the signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. The hybrid battery temperature sensor resistance changes with battery temperature.
The lower the temperature, the higher the resistance of the sensor. The higher the temperature, the lower the resistance of the sensor. The drive
motor generator battery control module (BECM) uses the battery temperature sensors to determine the hybrid battery temperature to control the
battery cooling fan operation.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The ignition is ON.
* The 12 V battery voltage is 9-18 V.
